In
the second part of her performance trilogy - Affluenza- Simone Carneiro
drew parallels to the creation and bursting of speculative bubbles.
Inspired by economic systems, the concept of expectations and the
current financial turmoil, she presented a 6 X 9 meter bubble-like
installation consisting of the finance pages of a variety of Austrian
newspapers.
The
paper walls of the installation were filled by a processual performance. The turning point was reached
when the paper bubble was ripped apart leaving a number of painted
paper shreds reminding us of better times. As an allusion to units
of ownership in financial assets, the resulting paper shreds represent
shares, that is, separate entities comprising a bigger whole.
